Kate Olivia born 1/25/19- long post

Sarah

I used to lay in bed at night and read these stories while I felt my sweet girl kicking and rolling around in my stomach. I loved reading them and thought I would share my story with other Momma's who are currently devouring everything they can while waiting on their precious baby to arrive. My post is long, but those were my favorite!

On Friday, January 25th between giving a spelling test and getting ready for lunch my water broke at 36+3 days. I had a back ache starting the day before, but chalked it up to being 36 weeks and on my feet teaching. I was sitting at my desk and felt a huge amount of pressure on my bottom like I had to poop. I had a aide watch my class and went to the restroom. I had red blood when I wiped, so I knew I was headed l&d for the first time. By the time I got to my car fluid was down to my feet. My husband rushed home from work and I called my OB and was told to go straight to l&d. We rushed to pack a bag because of course that was on our list of things to do over the weekend since I was only 36 weeks. I had leaking that was soaking through 4 pads in 10 minutes. I was taken straight in a labor and delivery room instead of triage because my fluid was around pooling in my shoes at the desk. I was checked and was 2 1/2 cm and 80% effaced. God blessed us and my OB was the on call doctor that night and through the weekend. My labor progresses to 4cm and 90% effaced in the hour before my OB got there. I back labored and my contractions were not picking up, so a Foley was placed internally to monitor my contractions. That part hurt worse than the actual delivery. I was admitted at 12:30 PM and around 4:00 I was at a 5 and 100%e effaced. I received my epidural, which was like a normal shot sting at 5. By 7:00, I was at a 7. I was able to rest and visit with family during that time because my pain was down. A little before 9:30, I was at 10 cm and ready to push. I pushed for 2 hours straight. At the two hour mark, my OB offered to keep pushing or we could use a vaccum because baby girl was not moving past a certain point. I was getting exhausted, so we opted for the vaccum and she was here 4 contractions later at 11:58 PM. The dr had to manually turn her shoulders. I felt pressure, but it was not as bad as I thought. I had a small himorage and a 2nd degree perineal tear that was internal and external. It took the dr anout 45 minutes to get me stitched up. Kate came out a with a gargle, so she needed some assistance for about 5 minutes to get her stimulated and regulated. She did not have any other issues other than jaundice. I am 9 days postpartum and am healing nicely. I'm down to just ibuprofen a couple times a day. From my water breaking to delivery was 14 hours, which I was told was not bad for a FTM. The nurses and drs were amazing. My advice to all FTM is to ask for help at the hospital when needed and use the dermaplast and ice packs. They will give you as many as you need. My nurses even sent me home with a ton of extras.
