Can i pump and bottle feed until my milk comes in then breastfeed? Baby is 3days old and my boobs are very painful but less painful when i pump

I pumped starting 4 days postpartum because my baby was having a hard time latching and not getting anything. My lactation consultant told me to pump to get my supply up and I had to supplement with formula until he started latching well and I started getting enough milk in.

Best way to get your milk in is to nurse baby. However understandably the pain can be horrible:( nurse as much as possible. If you need to pump one session to get a slight break that’s fine, when milk comes in if you are cracked and need some time to heal you can feed on one side and pump the other side for a few feedings or one day. I had to do that to get it to heal a few times. What are you using to help with the pain? Lanolin of course, I swear by these too. Lansinoh soothie p

Do not pump, seriously you’ll ruin your supply

Try to keep baby on the boob and pump after. Your breast responds better to the baby, and it helps the baby learn to latch. Colostrum is so important and baby really does not need a lot. Of course you can pump and bottle feed, but in these early weeks, it’s really important for your supply to have baby latch.
