Any 3rd shift working soon to be mommas???

Mary

So I work 3rd shift and love it 1045p -715am. I use to take something to help me sleep throughout the day but since I’m pregnant I haven’t taken anything to help. Which is fine in the beginning. But now I can’t sleep but yet tired all the time and mostly at night.

Trying my hardest to stay away from soda.

How do you fight the sleepies while at work on 3rd shift?

I work 6p-6a. I stayed away from pop EXCEPT while I was at work. I drank one bottle over the course of the 12 hours. I also kept small snacks to munch on if needed

I would drink my coffee later in my shift. I worked 7p-7a and used to drink coffee on the way to work. But when I was pregnant I would wait until 12 am or 1am! It really helped

I would first try to fix your sleeping during the day issues first. Black out curtains, no light, stay away from blue light 30 to 60 minutes before bed (phone screens, tv, etc). Try to do something relaxing for you before you go to bed. Also keep your bedroom for just sleeping that way it’s mentally associated with sleeping. I would also try to stay consistent with a routine for about 2 weeks. As for working at night, you’re technically allowed 200mg of caffeine a day while pregnant. Maybe you don’t need the full 200mg but you can start with a lower dose using coffee, tea, soda, etc and sip it through the night to keep you going. Also it should be stopped between 4 to 6 hrs before going to bed as it can interfere with sleeping as well. I work nights as well, but I have a good sleeping routine. As of right now, I don’t drink caffeinated drinks. I also take a nap during my lunch break. Hope this helps.

I use to have a good sleeping routine but the last week of every month I switch to first shift to help with the new month’s paperwork. But I think I’m going to have to stop that. I just can’t do it anymore
