Birth plan! Did you have one? Did it turn out ok?

I’ve been asked multiple times about my birth plan. This is my first pregnancy so I’m basically clueless on everything! I wanna know what your guys birth plan was/is.

My plan was to have an open mind. Births rarely go according to a plan. Do your research ahead of time (on epidurals, assisted deliveries, c-section, etc) so you can make informed decisions as you go.. but the midwife/OB will be guiding you through as well.

Mine was pretty simple. I just said I wanted all natural unless there was an emergency. Figure out if you want the eye ointment, vitamin k shot and vaccinatine (not every hospital/country does this). I also didn't want anyone else in the room but my husband. Breastfeeding or formula is another thing to think about. Could look into delayed cord clapping/lotus birth or even what to do with the placenta if you want it.
I think that's it🤔 it was a brief discussion I had with my midwife and we were on the same page.

I’m working with a doula to figure out my birth plan. There are things you can’t control, but lots of things you can! Like even if you end up with a c-section, you can request getting double layer uterine closure instead of one layer. So it’s good to have plans for more than one scenario. Birth plans aren’t only for your ideal situation.

I didn’t ever write down a specific plan. My plan was just to go as natural as possible and then intervene if the pain was intolerable. I ended up getting an epidural because my body wasn’t dilating, but my contractions were 1 min apart and a 1 min long for a while and I was still only 2.5 cm dilated. I just voiced my opinions with my doctor.

I’m not making a birth plan! There are so many unknowns with birth it would suck to have this idea of how you wanted it and then everything go differently. I’m just aiming for a natural birth over c section. Won’t turn down drugs if I feel I need them! Otherwise I’ll just trust the process.

I wrote mine out—the gist of it being I don’t want any drugs or interventions. Leave me alone, don’t offer me drugs, baby goes on my chest when he comes out and that’s where he stays, for at least an hour. Pretty basic when you get down to it. My hospital has a birth center in the same building as regular L&D so I can labor there and still be close to emergency rooms if needed.

Mine was just to aim for a vaginal birth. Epidural wanted. No circumcision. That was it. I ended up having a vaginal birth but no epidural.

I had one the first time. No one asked for it. I ended up with an epidural despite my desire to go natural, but everything else I wanted happened.
