At what age do you stop counting in months?

At what age for your child do you stop counting in months? I asked this mom how old her child was and she said 32 months.... lol I was confused as to why she said the age in months. My daughter is a year(14 months) and I just say she’s one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve never understood why people count after a year? Is there actually a reason?

The reason people count in months up to age 3 or 36 months is that babies change and grow so very much physically and cognitively those first three years...just like how counting a pregnancy in weeks is more accurate than in months. A 13 month old and an 18 month old are both 1 year old but they are so far apart developmentally that it makes more sense to say it in months. It is basic math to convert in your head to years if you really need to know.

I think doctors stop at 24 but I’m not sure... they still call my son 20 months.  I say “he’ll be two in May”

Around the playroups we go to I use months, they’re all pretty close so it’s easier to differentiate their skills by telling other moms the months, and at our doctors. 
Other everyone else I say oh he turned one in January

Most professionals stop using months once a child is 2 or 3 years old. Up until that point, babies and toddlers are growing and changing so much from month to month. So my 20-month-old is very different developmentally than your 14-month-old. They can't even be compared in terms of milestones or anything like that. Hence why so many use months even past a year.

I used months till a year, then said years. I will just say 1.5 years, nearly two, just turned two, etc. sometimes when we’re talking milestones I’ll give Months (prior to two) but now that she’s two no more months.

11 months 😐 Sometimes I will say “he is 14mo” when talking about something specific or if it’s important to the conversation, but other than that he is 1 yr old. 
I think it’s ridiculous to just go on & on with months, like why? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I stopped at 18, not sure why but it just sounded dumb saying 20 or 21 months. I just say “she’ll be 2 in April”
