Do you add he powder to the drum of a front loader?

I’m cleaning my cloth diapers and about half of the powder I put in- where it’s supposed to go is stuck to the inside of the tray 🙄 
Would it be okay to just add the powder into the drum?

Maybe? If the make and model number is on the machine, I'd look up the manual online and see what it says! :)

Yup add it to the drum under the diapers.

I just add it to the drum when I do my hot cycle.  I have no idea what my manual says about that. 🤷‍♀️ It works well for me. 
I do a cold wash first with liquid in the tray. Then I open the door and throw in a scoop of powder into the drum and do my hot wash.
