Why does water sit pull on top of my charcoal inserts??

I have hundreds of charcoal inserts, I have been selling all of my MF inserts! I was curious and I ran water on my charcoal insert and the water pulled on top of the charcoal! It immediately absorbed in my MF brand! I thought the leak issues we had were from the MF I was using (I though compression leaks) but if the charcoal isn’t absorbing, or if it is slow to absorb, wouldn’t that explain it!? Should I be selling my charcoal inserts too??

If its been awhile since they’ve been stripped I’d start there. Pretty much any detergent you buy in the store leaves a residue in fabric that builds up over time and reduces absorbency.

Are they new? Were they prepped? I’ve been considering getting charcoal but if you’re having issues maybe I’ll stick to what I have.

Just checked mine, I tested my charcoal one when I first got it and the water ran off it but after washing a few times, it now soaks it up!
