C-section mommas! Do you pump and breastfeed in hospital?

I’m curious on how to get started. This is my second baby, my first was an emergency csection. Other than my milk coming in late, I realized I made so many mistakes in the beginning and eventually my son lost weight and also stopped wanting to latch and preferred the bottle. I ended up pumping for him for just shy of a year. I don’t want to go through the same thing and desperately want to nurse this baby. Pumping and bottle feeding was so much work! With a toddler running around I won’t really have the time. 
Do I need to pump in the hospital to get things going since Im having a csection? I’ve heard the surgery causes your milk to come in late. I also hear ladies say not to pump because of oversupply.  Or do I only need to nurse? And how often should I nurse in the hospital? I’m so confused...

My milk didn’t come in until day 5-6 after my c-section and my daughter was fine with just colostrum until then. It’s best to nurse on demand, which in the beginning is pretty constant, because baby is trying to encourage your milk to come in. Keep letting baby latch as often and for as long as they want to help your supply. 
As long as baby doesn’t lose more than 10% of their birth weight and there are no other health concerns, the colostrum is enough for them and there’s no need to supplement with formula or expressed milk. 
If you do end up needing to give bottles, make sure to pace feed them and use the slowest nipple flow possible to make the bottle as close to breast as possible and help avoid nipple preference.

I just had my second baby and second c section this passed Sunday. She was 4weeks early and currently in the NICU doing awesome!
With my first baby my mature milk did not come in until day 5. Colostrum held up strong before then. 
With this baby I started pumping to stimulate the same day she was born, as it was an emergency c section due to preeclampsia. I started producing very LITTLE drips of colostrum on Monday. Tuesday I produced 89MLs. I just finished my last pump session for the night and I’ve produced 831ML for the day. I went from 3oz to 28oz of milk in 6 days, as she was born at 3:15am eastern time, and it’s impressive since 28oz of milk is what I should be producing at 2+ weeks postpartum. 
In my own unprofessional opinion, I’d recommend pumping. At the rate I’m going my dd will never be short on milk. 
SN: I was going to the NICU to breastfeed her and I’d pump for 20mins on each side after she finished. I also pump every 2-3hrs depending on my energy level.

And I was told to nurse on demand or at least every 3 hours from the start of a nurse . We wrote everything down the 3 days I was in the hospital. First day it was clock work every 3 hrs he wanted to nurse. Day 2 he nursed what felt like all day and night. Day 3 he slept all day and we had to keep waking him to nurse and I got scared but the lactation nurse said even if he only nurses 5 min it’s ok. He dropped right at the maximum a newborn can drop in wt but then he shot up fast and by his 1 month check up was in 90% and at 4 months is still 90%

I’ve had two c sections milk came in around day 3 I didn’t pump in the hospital for either one first c section was twins so they were just on me non stop maybe that helped? But I ended up pumping and giving them bottles and that was it they only wanted bottles this baby I’m trying to just nurse because pumping was way too much! I would just say while in the hospital let the baby nurse as much as possible

If you can pump it will only help. Anything you can do to get your supply up in the early days will help. Also, maybe wait a couple weeks before introducing a bottle or pacifier. Baby will definitely lose some weight and that's completely normal, but of course you want to keep an eye on it and do whatever you need to if your pediatrician thinks baby is losing too much. My daughter lost a pound, but gained it right back. Lactation bites, drinking a ton of water, eating often, and nursing as much as possible will all help. Best of luck!!💕

My milk didn’t come in until day 5 or so but I did pump in the hospital using the hospital grade pump and the lactation nurse advised me to do it plus I nursed on demand. Once my milk came in, I nursed in demand and I immediately pumped after every session. My LO is 32 weeks old and we are still exclusively breastfeeding and I also have a huge deep freezer stash of frozen milk.

I had a C-section and my milk didn’t come in until day 5. My son started dropping weight because he was having latching issues so we supplemented with formula using a syringe. I would get him to latch for a few minutes, feed him formula, pump, and give him the colostrum. I received the pump on day 3. I’m pregnant again and will be asking for a pump on day 1 to try to jump start production.

My milk came in pretty quick after my c section about 3 days. I think its because my son had to feed at least every 2 hours due to jaundice. During the day he would latch very 45min-an hour and at night u set an alarm to wake up and feed him. He still lost 7oz but its normal for babies to lose until milk comes in. Just feed as often as baby wants to even if LO is on the boob constantly.

I had an emergency csection at 34 wks with twins I had to pump to get milk to come in. They were in nicu. But by 6 wks they figured out how to latch I just kept trying everyday. This time I had a scheduled at 39 wks and put baby to breast I didn’t have to pump and my milk came in just fine. I also had no leaking what’s so ever before hand
