Toddler neck pain

I asked my doctor about this and she said it could be radiating pain from teething but it seems weird so I just wanted to ask if anyone has had this happen to they LOs:

My LO seemed like he was teething a couple days ago and kept holding the back of his neck so I brought him to the doc and she said could be teething pain radiating. Didn’t seem worried. He then developed a runny nose and cold symptoms yesterday. I brought him to daycare because it didn’t seem bad and he was pretty happy but by noon I got a call saying he was miserable and had a slight fever and threw up. I went to get him and he threw up several times and was just miserable for the rest of the day. He also held his neck again a couple times. He slept good last night and hasn’t thrown up again and seems a little better today except when he is laying down and I go to pick him up he resists almost like his neck hurts. It just seems really weird to me. I am worried about meningitis but I don’t understand why the doctor didn’t say anything really about it and he did get better since yesterday. Stressful!
