PSA: For anyone that has black box color in their hair and wants to go blonde!!! (Pics included)

Hey guys :) for anyone interested I am a cosmetology student just wanting to spread some important hair knowledge with you all! We all know blonde is a process even with natural virgin hair but this post is pertaining to box color.

We’ve all been there and dabbled with box color, but the thing is they make box color so strong to the point that it will work on all hair types including the most resistant! Black box color being one of the strongest.

So the other day I was faced with a huge challenge, one of my good friends wanted to come in and her goal is to go blonde. She previously colored her hair with black box color a year ago, so a lot of her natural hair grew out but however you can see an obvious line of demarcation.

If I were to go ahead and do an all over lighten on her, her natural hair would lighten and where the black box color is would go a orange-y red color- not cute at all!!! Lol

So I was advised by my instuctor to do a full heavy highlight on her, so that way it would blend a lot better. Though she would have to come in one more time to be fully blonde as she wants.

So as expected as I’m performing the service, her natural hair lightened perfectly,....except for the ends lol

As you can see the black box color on her ends turned red! One of the hardest colors to get out lol. I had to go over her ends one more time with lightener in order to tone them out for a better blend.

As you can see, after toning her hair came out amazing! And in one more process she will be fully blonde!

So moral of the story if there is any box color in your hair and you plan on going blonde, it will be a process, but trust the process and your stylist and you’ll get there!

Though, despite misconceptions the process takes time and money 💰 but worth it in the end.
