Sweep?

So I’ve just had my 36 week appointment and go back to see midwife when I’ll be 38 weeks 5 days. She said she can examine me and do a sweep but it’s completely up to me and to decide in the next two weeks. 
What actually happens in a sweep?

I had it done with my first, i didnt even realize she did it when she was done haha (i had asked her to do it if i was dialated). I had contractions immediately and they didnt stop till i had my son at noon the next day 😂

Reading all the other comments and I'm hoping at my next appointment they ask if I wnat a sweep too! I'm 37+4 and I've had enough of pregnancy now. I also desperately want to meet my little baby boy and I'm having dreams about holding him. Praying they ask me if I want a sweep!!!! Hehehe

They just sweep membrane fluid from the cervix,  it's supposed to make your cervix dilate or water break because there's more friction it's a 50/50 chance really that it'll put you into active labor

From what I’ve read (FTM here, so I don’t have the experience!) they go in and literally use their finger to insert and ‘sweep’ the cervix (separate the membrane from the cervix) to try to get things going. This helps to soften things and get things going.

My doctor gave me a sweep without even telling me. 😑😐 
He offered to induce me right after, but in 4 days I had gone from .5cm to 3cm and was showing signs of pre-eclampsia so he was ready to get it going and I was 40+1 😂 
I went and got induced anyways, but before I even made it home I had my bloody show, lost my plug, and when I got to the hospital four hours later I was at 4cm and contracting. 
However... Even with pitocin, it took me 24 hours to deliver 😂 
My dd1 was sunny side up and my body struggled to flip her. She then ended up needing a vacuum suction cause she has such a big head (still does 😂) 
I definitely will go for a sweep if I'm favorable earlier on!

I'll probably try if my body keeps progressing on its own. I get induced at 39 weeks anyways, but I'd like as much progress as possible before hand.

I had it done with my second pregnancy and it was awful. I was like 2 or 3 dilated and like 38+4 or something. It hurt so bad I almost crawled backwards off the table. Then I bled and bled and for like 5 nights had inconsistent contractions that constantly made me wonder “is this it?!”
I’ll never do it again, unless it’s my absolute last resort.
