What happens if your doctor orders a ultrasound but your insurance only covers 3

So my doctor is sending me for a growth scan at 36 weeks but I’ve used all the ones my insurance will cover(3 this would be my 4th). Do I have to deny the ultrasound because I know we wouldn’t be able to afford it without insurance?

Typically if the doctor requests it, they will cover it. For instance, my insurance only allowed one NIPT, but my first test, the MaterniT Genome test, came back inconclusive, so my doctor had me do it a second time. I got a letter from my insurance saying that I was only allowed one and would have to pay like 3-4 thousand dollars for the additional testing, but when I brought it to my doctor, they made a copy, told me not to worry about it again, and it was fixed.

If it is medically necessary I’m pretty sure the insurance will cover it. Once I got to ,i think, 20 weeks I had growth scans every 2 weeks because my baby was measuring small.

Most insurances cover it if your dr states that you need it. Mine only covers the basic ones but due to my BP being elevated I’ve been getting growth scans every 4 weeks.
