Raising a child without religion
Not sure if this is the right place to post. Please direct me if there's a better place to post this.
Anyway, if you aren't religious, how do you handle it when people try to give your child religious items/teachings, etc?
I grew up in a Catholic family, but I decided to leave all religion behind and I'm trying to raise my daughter (who is almost 2) with no specific religion. I want her to choose her own spirituality when she's old enough to inquire about it on her own. I don't want any one religion pushed on her.
With that said, my mother watches my daughter every now and then. She is well aware of our religious stance. But still occasionally my daughter comes home with books about Jesus, etc. They go straight in the trash. But I am not sure if I need to confront her on the issue or if I should just let it go and continue to handle it by throwing things out and/or just teaching my daughter to question everything. How would you handle this?
