IUD: to remove it or leave it in?
Hello everyone! I am asking for some insight or possibly advice. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to discuss removing my IUD. I have Mirena and have had it in since 2015, meaning I don’t need to take it out until 2020. However, lately I have been experiencing some anxiety about having an IUD in and getting pregnant, and the impact it could have on my body and a baby if I needed it removed. My partner and I have discussed it at length and we feel like we are in a place where if my birth control fails, we would be overjoyed with a surprise addition. Marriage and future babies is a frequent discussion we have so it’s definitely in our future, just not something we are planning for right now. I have also heard some horror stories recently about IUDs gone wrong (including my best friend who is requiring a 2nd surgery for removal) and I’m scared of damaging my body. But here’s the dilemma: my OBGYN called yesterday to let me know it’s their office policy to not put in IUDs unless it is to treat a medical condition due to the Practice’s religious beliefs. They’ve asked me to think hard about it because there’s no going back (at their office) if I were to change my mind. Anyone had this dilemma before? I still feel like I know what I want to do but I also wanted to ask y’all for your input! Thanks!
