Pelvic exam?

Next week my OB mentioned that he’ll be doing a pelvic exam to see how low baby is and check my cervix to see if I’m dilating. I’ve never heard of a pelvic exam but does anyone know what they do?

They do this at every apmt after 36 weeks to check if youre cervix is softening or youre dilating, totally normal

You don’t have to get it done. I did last week just to know if I was dilated at all. And if I am determines if I go in on Sunday night to try to start dilation or Monday morning to be induced

It is standard, but you can also deny if you don’t want.  Regardless of what they find- it doesnt indicate you are any closer to labor, just nice to know and may get your hopes up unnecessarily.
