My mom wants me to do my job for free🙄
I am a certified preschool teacher and recently got in a situation where I had to stay home. I decided to do preschool with my family's kids and they all knew from the beginning it wasn't a free service. I made sure to give really good deals since they are family. For an example my brother who brings his 4 and 5 year old 3 hours a day, 5 days a week only pays $250 a month. Anyways my other brother decided he wanted me to watch his kids 2-3 hours, 5 days a week later in the evening. He has 3 kids, a 1, 4 and 6 year old. Before I started watching them, I said how about $8 for two hours but he wanted to pay me $10. Well I'm not going to say no to more money. Eventually he just stopped bringing them even though I was expecting them everyday. I called and he said to assume I'm not watching them unless he texts me that morning. It's come to the point where I might watch them once every other week for one hour at random times in the day, not the agreed time. They won't text me until an hour before and asks me to watch them. I need the money so I always say yes. My problem is, because it's only twice a month I feel like I should be paid at least $20 even if it's one hour so it can be worth it for me. They only want to pay me $10. I explained to them why I want to charge more even though it's one hour but they don't agree. My brother called to complain to my mom that I'm charging too much so I just got a call from her and she jumped down my throat saying I need to do it for free because it's family. I explained that this is my job, this is how I pay my bills and I can't do it for free. She said they are struggling financially but so are we, we almost couldn't pay rent. I said well maybe I shouldn't watch his kids anymore and she got very pissed. She told me I just need to watch his kids out of the kindness of my heart. This isn't the first time she wants me to do things for a ridiculous price or for free. My sister had me watch her son for a while and my mom made sure to tell me I had to do it for cheap because she's family! I was only asking for $150 for 5 hours, 5 days a week but apparently that was too much. My question is, do you think that I'm charging too much or do you agree with my brother or mom and why? I'm almost to the point I think the hour is not even worth $20. He's not going to find daycare cheaper anywhere else and he will get charged for a drop in fee. Not to mention most daycares won't even take kids for just one hour at random times because of student/teacher ratio and wanting all their spots filled.
