What are the next steps after urology consultation?

My husband has been diagnosed with male-factor infertility. He failed many different areas of the SA. We go in for a consultation with the urologist on Friday. In your experience what happens next? Is there any else the urologist can really do to get me pregnant? Or at that point are they just trying to figure out the reasons why he’s infertile? As a next step to get pregnant do they refer you to a fertility clinic?

The urologist will check for varicoceles or other potential correctable causes of male factor infertility (low testosterone, etc.). In the meantime, I’d schedule an appt. with an RE to get the ball rolling (no pun intended🤣). Good luck!

So we’re currently going through the same thing! My husband had his first SA in November, results came back with 0 sperm. Did a second SA in January, also 0 sperm. So my obgyn referred us to a urologist. This appointment was Feb. 13. He had to do a urinalysis before the SA, another SA, and then pee right after the analysis. Also 0 sperm. So they drew some blood to test for something genetic (results won’t come back for a month). So the urologist wants him to come back March 13 for a prostate exam & an ultrasound on his testicles. The dr can’t say for sure until those 2 exams but he’s putting his money on that there’s a blockage. If there is one he said he can unblock it at that visit, they will have to knock him out for that. So definitely have him see a urologist because it could be something as easy as a blockage!

They’ll probably rule what’s going on with him, but he should refer you to an endocrinologist.

I would make an appointment with an RE as soon as possible. I only say this because for me it took a few months to get in.
Here’s what happened with my husband: his urologist got him on Clomid and male fertility supplements. Three months passed, he did another SA. He continued taking everything and three more months passed, and he did another SA. His numbers were up (not to the point where we could do IUI), and at that point he froze his sperm. That will be used for our upcoming IVF/ICSI cycle. Hope that helps!

My story is similar. We had been ttc for about 6 months and in my gut I knew something wasn’t right so my husband did a semen analysis and it was not good. They referred him to a urologist to rule out a blockage in his testes, rechecked his sa and put him on antibiotics for high WBC count in semen. A month later he got rechecked and the WBC was good but still bad analysis. I called a fertility dr and got us started with them (March marks 1 year of ttc) and we will finally be starting our first natural iui cycle next month. My period is pretty regular, my fertility dr ran blood tests and an HSG on me and everything has come back good. I would call a fertility dr now, the urologist can only do so much. Once they rule out a blockage I feel like they can’t really do too much to get you pregnant faster. I hope this helps, hang in there!
