Have any of you ever had TSS?

Have any of you ever actually had Toxic Shock Syndrome or know someone who has? I used to be scared for a few years to use tampons because of it but know I wonder if it's kinda like salmonella (eat cookie dough-get salmonella, use tampons-get TSS) in the sense they scare us about it but it never happens

My mom knew someone who got it so her experience always kind of scared me. From what I understand though it’s not likely if you’re using them properly. Changing then frequently enough is the most important thing. I can’t remember where I heard this or if it was the person my mom knew, but I heard a story about someone who got it this way: they had a tampon in, but then got inebriated and forgot they had one in, so they put another tampon in causing the first to go higher and get stuck.
