What kind of stone should an engagement ring have?
If you were proposed to with a family ring, and for a later anniversary, your spouse wants to buy you a “proper” ring, would you be open to alternatives, other than a diamond? Or would you worry that your relationship would be judged by others?
Diamonds have been advertised by DeBeers since the 1930s as being the traditional engagement stone. (Not true. All advertising and drumming up business....plus... blood diamonds. Ew.)
While they are beautiful, many other beautiful gemstones exist and are of similar quality to diamonds, though many view these as a tacky alternative.
I, for one, have viewed some gorgeous moissanite stones (way cheaper but just as beautiful, and more sparkly, than diamonds.) I’ve also considered a beautiful aquamarine or sapphire for a center stone, flanked by a beautiful halo and surrounded by pave diamonds.
