Newborn diapers, how big of a box should I get?

I was going to just buy cases from the hospital employee store that my fiancé works at (they are huggies and are extremely discounted for the employees). But I was just looking today and they only carry size 1 and up. At 36 weeks baby girl was 5lbs 11oz and estimated to be 6.5lbs at birth. Just wondering how many new one diapers I should buy. We don’t have any of that size right now, and baby will be here a week from tomorrow!

I would get a small package of them. If your baby comes smaller than expected you can always go and get more. But most size one will fit an 8 pound baby, sometimes 7. So you may not even need newborn for too long. Wouldn’t want to spend money on a big box to not use it.

Realistically almost all newborn babies will use newborn size (at least for a week). We used them for the first month. I would recommend 1 full box and then buying them as needed

Going on 2 months and he’s still in newborns. He was 7 pound when he was born. We’ve been through like 3 boxes. We did try to move him up to 1s for a few weeks but they are still too big.

My son was 6.6 pounds and we went through maybe 150-200 newborn diapers. He was in them for about a month maybe month and a half.

Huggies newborn are for up to 10 lbs. I’d buy two big boxes because newborns go through a TON of diapers. Better have too many and have to return a box. You don’t want to be running out with a week old baby to Walmart to buy more. And get two big boxes of size 1 as well because those are up to 14 lbs.

My daughter was 7lbs 10oz at birth and stayed in newborn for about 3 weeks (10-12 diapers a day). Technically size 1 can fit an 8lb baby, but that doesn’t work for every baby. My daughter was long and skinny so size 1s were too big on her when she was 8lbs. I wouldn’t go overboard with newborn diapers, but have at least one case (unopened) until you find out what fits your baby and then get more if you need them.

I bought 1 box and it went to waste, my baby was 8 pounds and fit right into size 1. I probably used no more than 20 newborn diapers.

My son was 7lb3oz at birth, but they estimated he would be less than 7 so they aren’t terribly accurate. He squeezed into newborn for 2 weeks, so we finished off one large box (I believe there were around 120 diapers), and that’s all I’d recommend. After a week or two you’ll know if you need more and you can order them online or have someone run to the store for you, but I’d definitely get fewer than 200 to start out.
