How to break the “everything is a sword” problem?!?
Ok so I know it’s TOTALLY our fault but my 2.5 year old is OBSESSED with turning everything into a lightsaber and starting wars. My husband is a huge Star Wars fan and we definitely introduced him to it too early. He had his little toy lightsabers and everything. Well all was fine and good and every once in a while we would have lightsaber battles etc....well then it became not so good anymore and now he will find anything and everything his little imagination deems worthy to be a weapon and he will hit and “fight” us (and his 6 month old sister). We have taken away all his toy light sabers, his toy broom set, his toy vacuum cleaner etc. he isn’t allowed to watch Star Wars or anything that is remotely violent. We try to redirect him, put him in time outs, take things away, tell him “that’s not a sword, please put use it correctly, blah blah blah” but nothing is working. He makes trying to play and interact with him borderline miserable. Luckily I haven’t had an issue with him behaving like this around other kids so no one has gotten injured yet. He has almost done serious damage to his baby sister and I definitely have my fair share of bruises. He is doing it playfully and not in anger or trying to intentionally inflict pain. We don’t spank but boy is it tempting to take whatever object he happens to smash me in the face with and hit him back with it! (I won’t..) has anyone else had this problem and have you successfully broken this habit? Please no “you deserve it, he was too young for lightsabers, blah blah” I realize this 🤦🏻♀️
