Should a shower be thrown for a 2nd baby if the gender is opposite from the first born?

My boyfriends parents want to throw me a baby shower for my daughter since my first born is a boy and when I told my mother, she told me that you aren’t supposed to have baby showers for second born children and that basically if you wanna play, you gotta pay...I don’t know what to do...advice please

You can if you want 😊 I think each baby should be celebrated! 
We’re having a BaByQ, and asking that instead of gifts that people bring their favorite side dish or dessert, or a box of diapers and/or wipes. We have everything we need, but we still want to celebrate this pregnancy and the fact a new baby is coming.

You could call it a sprinkle and just register for smaller things ie. clothes, bottles, blankets etc...

The ladies at our church always want to do baby showers for mommas no matter how many babies they have. The first is usually more extravagant but all are special. I figure if old church ladies are okay with it, than anybody can be. They would stick more with etiquette than I do anyway. lol but seriously do whatever you want. It’s your baby. Your life. If someone wants to celebrate you, it’s often more rude to decline than to accept.

Yes no matter the gender I would absolutely go to a friend's shower for a second baby and support her and bring a gift. I'm pretty old school and I don't see anything wrong with the etiquette here, especially since you're not throwing your own shower. Invite her but don't listen to her advice on this one. 😊

I’m personally not having a shower for my second but it’s also another boy! :) If it were a girl, I totally would! A lot of my friends are having baby showers though even if it’s the same gender for their second :) do what makes you happy!💙 I’m going to have a big lunch at a tex mex place to celebrate this baby! Just not a shower :)
