Am I pregnant or miscarried

So I went for first 8 week U/s last week and they could only see the gestational sac. She kept asking me if Ian sure about my dates which I am because I have been trying to conceive from a year. Today I went to confirm the lost and the technician said she can see the fetal pole but it is measuring only 5 week and 5 days. I already prepared myself for the loss but now again I got my hopes up even though I don’t want to. Please help me to understand is it possible? Has it ever happened to anyone? Thanks
