Do you let your January baby go up and down stairs alone?

My husband and I are both overly cautious about a lot of things. Our son can definitely go up and down the stairs, but we are still nervous to let him do it alone. Just wondering if this is one of those times that we are being too overprotective.

Yes but supervised. We’re always keeping an eye on him.

No way you are not being overprotective at all! I'm a super laid back parent, but definitely still am right by his side I'd he's going up a big set of stairs..

I’m took a nose dive down a half a flight of steps when I was almost three and it was traumatic for sure.  We live in a wonderful townhome full of steps (go figure) but everything is blocked off from my son freely going up and down.  We stay with him- especially on the hard wood steps!
I’m projecting my own fears on him, I realize, but it works for us.

Alone but supervised. She goes up and down and knows to hold the railing. I either walk in front or follow behind depending which direction she goes. She’s fine up and down unsupervised too but not often.

Our daughter walks up and down by herself. She actually doesn’t turn around and walk down that way, she walks like “mommy and daddy does” 🤣 with some help from the walls lol. I don’t normally supervise her, but my husband does (he is a lot more “worried” about things concerning our kids than I am😅)

We don’t have stairs in our house so luckily I don’t deal with this on a daily basis but we do have a couple steps down from our kitchen or from his room into the laundry area- he is very good with stairs now but I do supervise him. He fell down a few back in October on vacation at the beach when he just had a wall and not a rail to hold onto- he was with my husband walking and I just heard him so I still feel paranoid!

He goes up and down on his own the past few weeks. We have a lot of stairs and a lot of older pets and we just can’t gate the top and bottom of every one. He won’t go down the basement or outdoor steps that don’t have a wall to lean on by himself, I hope it stays that way.

We have a half wall in our living room he climbs up then slips through the rail and bolts up stairs when we are not looking. Soooo he goes up and down stairs alone even tho I hate it

We let Charlie go up the stairs by herself but only if one of us is watching. She has to hold our hand on the way down because she is very clumsy.
