Which comes first-the baby or the groceries?

So today I saw an article where a child sitting in a shopping cart was hit and killed by a drunk driver while her mother unloaded the groceries. This of course sparked a debate as to whether you should put the baby in the car first and then leave the baby in the car by him/herself while you go put the cart away, or should you put the groceries in first and then keep the child with you the whole time. What do you guys think?
