Ariana Grande headlining Pride

🌟

It’s recently been announced that Ariana Grande will be headlining Manchester Pride 2019.

The argument for: Ariana has a special tie to the city since the Manchester bombing in 2017. Many also see her as a strong and influential ally of lgbtq people. Pride is not just for lgbtq, but for allies to celebrate too

The argument against: People aren’t happy about this as Pride is now being headlined by a cishet artist. Yes, she is an ally, but Pride is to celebrate lgbtq individuals and there’s plenty of lgbtq artists who could headline (example: what about Sam Smith?). There’s also the concern that Pride is now very expensive to attend (tickets are upwards of £30) and lgbtq people (esp youth) are statistically poorer and more disadvantaged than their cishet counterparts. Also, there’s the concern that Pride is losing its meaning and that it’s just yet another excuse for cishet girls to get drunk and paint glitter on their faces, disregarding the meaning of pride

So, which stance do you take: should Ariana headline or should she remove herself from the lineup?

Bonus question: if this was a celebration of people with disabilities, would you be for or against an able bodied individual headlining?
