What is like being in Labor for Hours?

When you arrive at the hospital and are in labor for hours and hours, what are you doing that whole time? Are you literally pushing for 10 hours or however long it is or taking lots of breaks?
Im pregnant for the first time...im just wondering

You dont push until the end. Your body is working to open your cervix and get baby down into the birth canal. Your contractions get closer and closer together and when you are fully dilated that's when you're ready to push, which can be minutes or a couple of hours.

When you’re in labor your uterus is contracting. You can basically do whatever you want, unless you have an epidural and cant feel your legs. I take baths, walk, play board games, scroll on my phone or cuss and breath when I’m in active labor 😂. You don’t push the whole time. I pushed for 20 min with my boys but it can take up to a couple hours, depending on the woman. If you’re worried about pushing stay active and do kegels.

Pushing only comes at the very end of labor but can still take a long time, especially with your first baby. I labored at home for about 7 hours (should have stayed home a couple more hours) and just watched The Office on Netflix haha.
I was 4 cm when we got to the hospital and labored for about 5 more hours before getting the epidural. During that time we walked the halls, listened to music, chatted, and intermittently monitored contractions and the baby's heart rate.
After the epidural, you can't get out of bed but I took a little nap and the nurse kept a closer eye on me and baby. You push when you are fully dilated or feeling pressure. Then all of a sudden there's a baby!

With my first, it was 12 hours exactly from when my water broke to when she was born and I just laid in the hospital bed until the last 5-10 minutes. There were a lot of complications with her birth so I don’t remember much of the details. 
With my second, it was 36 hours from my water breaking until he was born. With him I was bored in the hospital most of the time and the dr asked if I was ready to push and I said no but she checked and his head was out! He was born less than a couple minutes later.

I was induced at 39 weeks so it was 32 + hours of labor. Did some talking in the beginning, a little walking ( couldnt go to far or the monitors would lose signal) . Lots and lots of bouncing on birthing balls and switching positions as I didnt have any meds

I was in labour for 33 hours before I started pushing. 24 of those I was at home napping or walking around to try and get things moving faster, watching Netflix. The rest I was at the hospital where I played card games and slept as much as I could. Then pushed for 21 minutes after that and had my baby boy. I did have to be induced though with 2 kinds of meds then they broke my water. I also had an epidural.

When I first went to hospital I walked for 2-3hours trying to progress. I did the bath for a few hours, walked some more, rested in bed, just moved different positions in room. I labored from like 12pm on a Wednesday until my c section Friday at like 1pm and for 24hours at home

No labor is just your body contracting to move the baby down and that can take hours especially if you’re induced. The contractions are very strong but they are predictable so you know when they’re coming and you get a couple minutes in between. Pushing usually takes 1-3 hours for first time moms but maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones and push the baby out in minutes. Tbh I got an epidural and after that you don’t feel anything and pushing the baby out is not painful. I was mind blown. Everyone has a different experience but that was mine.

No.....labor and delivery are two different parts. Labor is when youre contracting and dilating. That’s the part that can go on for hours. You don’t do much during that time. Watch tv, play on your phone, try to make it through your contractions. You don’t push until the end. I was in labor for 8 hours but only pushed for 45 mins.

I walked, bounced on the birthing ball during contractions, watched movies, played card games with my mom and husband, slept, pretty much whatever you want within reason until you get an epidural. After my epidural and when it was time I only pushed for 10 min.
