Anxiety over heartbeat
I’m currently 14 weeks and 1 day along. I had my 12 week scan 2 weeks ago and everything was great. Baby was stretching and bouncing around. I was over the moon.
Then last week I received a call from my cousin to congratulate me. He started telling me how his baby’s heart beat had stopped at around 14-16 weeks and they didn’t find out until another scan. His wife was worried as all her symptoms had stopped and she wasn’t “feeling pregnant” anymore.
Now I can’t think about anything else. My morning sickness has stopped completely, I’m not nearly as tired as I was and I’m able to eat/sleep properly.
I called the midwife and she said don’t worry, you have a scan at 16 weeks and unless I’m bleeding or having severe pains she’s sure the baby’s fine but I just can’t relax or sleep. She said at 13 weeks + it’s normal for the symptoms to stop but how can she be sure it’s that?
Can I insist on a scan? I heard about a reassurance scan available in the US but I’m from the U.K. so not sure if this applies.
Anyone else going through this?
My husband who already has a child says, unfortunately, it’s a constant worry until the baby is actually born and after that there’ll be different concerns. He’s very much of the opinion that whatever is going to happen is going to happen so no point thinking about it too much but I just can’t seem to help it, even though I’m trying not to think about it.
Thanks for listening.
