Is it wrong to hyphenate my last name? 💍

Is it wrong to want to hyphenate my last name when I get married? I'm very proud of my family and last name and would love to keep it but my fiance tells me if I want to hyphenate my last name to just not take his name at all. I feel like I should be able to keep mine too but he thinks it's stupid. I'm torn about it honestly and I'm not sure what to do..

My boyfriend said when we get married he wouldn’t have it any other way. I have my grandpas last name. I love him with my whole heart. I was very lucky that my step dad never was able to adopt me like he wanted so I don’t have his last name. He was very abusive. When I marry my boyfriend he wants me to keep my grandpas last name next to his because he loves and respects my grandpa and knows what it means to me. I honestly don’t think he has a good reason to be upset. If you love your last name and being a part of your family why should he try to force you to take his last name. Gives me an uncomfortable feeling. If my boyfriend expresses that to me I would tell him I’m my own person. He doesn’t own me and he should feel the obsessive need to brand me. I’d suggest he take your name. When he thinks that’s absurd you tell him it is kind of absurd but you’re still doing it for him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s not wrong for you to want to hyphenate but he’s also not wrong for being upset by (though he might not handle it properly apparently). I love my maiden name and my sister and i are the last ones ever in our family that our going to have it but I took my husbands name. Hyphenating makes no sense to me but it’s a to each their own kind of thing.

I have had a hyphenated last name my ENTIRE life! I’m the last generation from my grandpa to have his last name and I don’t want to lose it. I’ll ditch my father’s last name (that’s a whole other story) and keep my first last name!

I LOVE my last name too, my name will carry on because of my boy cousins but I'm my dad's only child. So I decided I'm going to move my maiden name to my second middle name and then take my fiancé's last name. (So my name now is Tiffany L___ E_____, and after I get married my name will be Tiffany L___ E_____ C______)Then when we have kids they will also have my maiden name as a second middle name. That way I can keep my maiden name and pass it on to the next generation 💕

I am currently engaged and my and my fiancé have talked about doing this because I to have my grandfather last name and he is completely fine with it. We have even talked about letting my used my grandfather last name for a boy when we have one. The is one man to carry the last name if we don’t use it for one of our kids.
