What to tell Visitors that smoke?

What should you tell smokers in the family before they come to meet your new baby and hold them? I’m concerned it’s not healthy for a nb and not sure of the risk factor if you don’t take precautions.

My father is a heavy smoker and actually restrained himself from smoking before visiting in the hospital and before he visited our home a month later. (We don’t see each other often) however his wife did not refrain from smoking before she came to our house so I told her she had to wash her hands and arms and take off her sweatshirt and borrow one of mine to wear while holding my son.
If she hadn’t done that she wouldn’t have held my son. Sorry not sorry.

I asked my mum not to smoke in the clothes she wants to hold the baby in as it lingers on clothes and I didn't want him breathing it in. 
When we'd just got home from hospital I asked her to wait an hour before as well as his lungs were so vulnerable. She was quite taken back by it and I felt awkward, but she smoked in the house when I was growing up and I had asthma 😷

My parents are from interstate so will be staying at a hotel when they visit. My father is a heavy smoker, so we’ll be asking him to refrain in the morning before visiting and of course during their time at our home. When they’re back at the hotel afternoon/ evening that’s his prerogative, but if they plan on coming back multiple times a day he’ll need to either have stayed smoke-free, or have showered and changed. 
I grew up with him smoking in the car and outside the house which was his choice raising his family - it’s not something I choose for raising mine.

Smokers do not realize that you don’t need to directly smoke around a baby in order for them to be harmed by smoking. Thirdhand smoke IS real, and attributes to many health issues especially for infants. If they can’t handle being told to wear clean clothes that haven’t been smoked in and washing their hands, and keeping smoke AWAY from you and your child, then they shouldn’t expect to see that child.

Be careful even with the clothes that they haven’t smoked in. If they smoke inside their house, it can linger on the clothes in their closet. 
I am not scared to smell clothes of my guests if I think there might be 3rd hand smoke. 
Be strict. I have all the research ready and I’m ready to define the different hands of smoke. Most people have been understanding.

My in laws are both heavy smokers. We asked that whoever comes over showers and gets the smoke smell off of them and washing hands before handling babies. We were told before we left the hospital that a baby can get so many chemicals off you and it causes sids. It’s your baby you are its voice don’t be scared to tell people no.

Tobacco has been associated with causing sids( learned that from a children’s hospital) my dad smokes and so does my aunt and cousins so I’m gonna have it where if they want to hold my daughter they can smoke before and they have to have clean smoke free clothes and wash their hands and beards if they have one

I’m more thinking of the visiting at the hospital. And home too. But is there a risk associated like third hand smoke to infants ?

That you don’t allow smoking in your house. Problem solved.
