Is 6-8 weeks enough time for maternity leave?

Personally I feel like laws should be in place so that women who work can have a decent amount of time off work to be home with their newborn baby. What do you ladies think?

I don't think it's nearly enough time. That's so sad. I'm in Canada, so I'm entitled to a year off with pay. All countries should have that much time.

I live in Canada, currently on parental leave, paid for by the government. There is no cost to my employer, other than my absence. Everyone's taxes pay for mothers and fathers to stay home with their babies.

It's not at all enough time...the U.S is one of the few countries which gives such little maternity leave. 
At least give the option to work from home or something so you can be home with your child & still work

My company provides 12 weeks paid maternity leave and 2 weeks paid paternal leave. I'm very, very lucky that they do. Hope they never take it away

It doesn't make business sense, but it would if legislation were passed to offer tax incentives to businesses offering longer maternity leave

I voted no but I can see why some people say yes. I talked to my dad about it recently and he says it doesnt make business sense. Which I agree. Having a family is a choice. If you choose to have a family, great but you can't expect businesses (esp small businesses) to pay out for a long time and offer up insurance. They're losing money. You aren't "entitled" so to speak as far as having a family. Do I feel it should be another month longer or at least paid leave? Yes. But Im a woman who wants to start a family so duh 😁 Id love a year off (paid) with little one but we cant have it all

I thinks it's tragic what they do in the U.S!! How can North American countries be SO dramatically different from one another?! I'm beyond grateful that I get a year to he a home with my new baby. I wish the U.S. Would get their friggen priorities in order. It's shameful really

I think it makes business sense to let your employee heal and adjust to motherhood than come back at 6 weeks exhausted and depressed 😕

I actually know a few people who aren't offered any maternity leave at all. My friend had to use sick days and returned to work just 5 days after having her baby.... To me that's just isn't right 😕😕

It's not enough time. I had to take the full 16 weeks FMLA time when I had my daughter. Only eight weeks of that was paid maternity leave. I saved up enough money to take the other eight weeks completely unpaid. It still wasn't enough time! I just thank my lucky stars that my company is allowing me to work from home now.
