Virginity is a social construct?

What are your opinions on virginity being a social construct? Do you think it is or isn’t? Why? I’ve been thinking about this lately and wonder what other people think!

Virginity can’t be proven physically. The typical “marker” of virginity is commonly the hymen, which can stretch or tear (not “break” or “pop”) due to many activities aside from sex. A woman can be born without a hymen as well.
As far as what is defined as “losing” one’s virginity, there is often a debate. For many, the only type of sex that counts is penetration of the vagina with a penis, but this isn’t inclusive. Does this mean that all lesbians are virgins if they’ve only ever had sex with women? If not, then what’s considered “losing virginity” for them? 
Sex encompasses a wide variety of activities, including anal, oral, vaginal, genital rubbing/grinding, manual stimulation with hands/fingers, etc. Where do we draw the line at a “physical virginity?” 
The fact that there is no one agreed upon physical method of “losing” one’s virginity, it is a social construct. Something we’ve created that has no real physical meaning behind it. Someone could be “sexually active” but still be a “Virgin” in their mind, since sexual activity is described by the activities listed above, plus some. 
Seriously, how many of us considered ourselves virgins despite doing sexual things like oral or manual stimulation with a partner? But we were sexually active.
So yes, virginity is a social construct.

It is a social construct. It’s not a huge deal to lose your virginity but societal standards made it so it’s some huge thing and a precious gift, when it’s real just a piece of skin that stretches from a lot more than sex. Your hymen can stretch from falling off your bike lol. I don’t believe in slut shaming as much as I don’t believe “losing your virginity” is some magical moment you see on tv.

I think it is actually. My thoughts on the matter are that it’s complicated to know what kind of sex makes someone no longer a “virgin.” Like, if you’ve had anal or oral sex but not vaginal, are you still a virgin? (IMO, not really). And not every one can have penetrative vaginal sex (gay men and women), but that doesn’t mean they’re virgins. I think it’s hard to accurately quantify what constitutes as virgin-[erasing] sex, and it doesn’t really matter—considering someone’s worth shouldn’t depend on their sexual activity.

There’s a first time for everything. First time you have sex, first time you kiss someone, first time you swim, ride a bike, pick your nose, eat a potato etc.
It’s weird that people obsess over it. I think it’s a social construct. People use to associate it with being pure...which we know now is stupid. It’s just a part of nature and life.
