Baby Girl and momma saved by the cat!

Mallory

So I was due 03/04/2019.

That didn’t happen.

I had my 39 week appointment 02/25, everything was normal and great. However I noticed something that nobody seemed to see as an issue, which, for most people it would not be. My blood pressure was 122/80. I’m always ALWAYS. A 90/60 or 100/70 kinda deal.

I mentioned it and the nurse wasn’t concerned and the doctor wasn’t alerted to the raise in bp because hey, thats certified normal.

Midnight rolls around and my husband goes to bed. My stomach starts cramping heavily. Sweating, faint and in a lot of pain I lay down. Cramps is not labour, I refuse to make a stupid phone call. But my cat is watching me pretty darn close. After half an hour to an hour he starts meowing, concernedly. So I eventually cave and call. He’s getting really cuddly when I’m on the phone. The nurse says to come in and they’ll check me out.

I wake up my husband at 01:30 am, he has to wake up at 06:00 mind you, and is already sleep deprived.

We go, stop at a gas station, i lost some blood in the toilet. Figured maybe bloody show.

They check me out and put me on the monitor. It’s not labour. I’m pissed at myself waking him up for nothing. Until they eventually decide before discharging me to take some blood and urine because one of my bps was just a lil bit high. My pain had dulled out by now, so I figured everything was gucci. After two nurses asked me about headaches and blurred vision, I knew I had preeclampsia. It’s 5am.

Doctor comes in.

I’m getting induced, I have preeclampsia! It could take 20 hours after they get me into active labour... which could also take 20 hours.

This is exactly how I DID NOT want everything to happen. I hadn’t slept in two days, didn’t want to be induced, and my bp made some of the wishes in my birth plan... moot.

I even did an epidural which I had not wanted either but i passed out on the nurse 2-3 times from pain so it was time to just give up on my perfect birth and just make it feel okay.

The epidural took me from 2.5cm to 6 and then quickly to 8. My water broke. That was a 2 hour jump or so.

They RUSHED the doctor in

I pushed 2 sets, and he became very concerned. I was super close to placental previa which, more than likely would’ve caused her to come out stillborn.

So we risked me tearing and pushed a really long good one because hey I couldn’t feel it anyways and she was 90% out anywho.

I needed a stitch but baby girl lived!

And then I craved broccoli.

The whole process was 14.5 hours, active labour for about 6. And had it not been for my cat, things could have gone from eh to horrible very quickly and it could have been too late.
