I wasnt expecting labor...

Lexi

On March 2nd I went into triage for the fifth time around 2:30am expecting the same visit as the past four; get there, be told I'm contracting slightly, get a shot to stop the contractions, be checked for dilation, be monitored for an hour, and then sent home. Well the visit started with the first usual steps, but when the nurse came in to check me; I had dilated 1cm more while being monitored and was now 90% effaced.

This was it! I was in labor! I was so certain it would be like the other visits, that I told my husband to stay home and sleep, that I would be home in a couple of hours. So here I am about to be transferred to another room doing my best to wake my husband up with multiple calls and sending him a list of things to bring with him. I had a slight inkling that something might be up, so I had a small bag packed, but definitely not a labor bag!

Hubby finally gets to the hospital shortly after I change rooms and then we had the joy of enduring labor for 16 hours. I keep saying it wasn't all that bad, but if you ask my husband; he will tell you that I forgot everything already. Lol he just looks at me and says "you are delirious, I watched you scream in pain for hours!".

I made it all the way to fully effaced, 9cm, and pushing before I caved and got the epidural. We thought since I was stretched enough she would come at 9cm, but after pushing for a couple of hours my Dr said we should stop and retry at 10cm because she didn't want me to tear. As much as I wanted to go fully natural, after pushing for a couple of hours; my contractions doubled in frequency and pain. I was also told I probably wouldn't hit 10cm for a few hours.

I caved, but I'm not mad I did. I'm still so proud of myself for going so far. Plus by time I was able to push her out, I was able to feel some of my contractions again.

She was born at 8:30pm on March 2nd weighing 5lbs 9oz and measuring 19in. We had the NICU team in the room ready to go since she was so early and she has a small mass on her lung. They cleared her completely and we got to have her right away! ☺️ We spent the usual two nights in the hospital and then all of us got to go home.

We were told she and I did great! I ended up having zero tearing and she only left with slight jaundice that most preemies have.

I definitely was not expecting to go into labor that night and we are so thrilled to have our little girl a tad earlier than expected! ☺️ Even if it meant rescheduling the baby shower 😉 she came the day before the shower was supposed to be.

She is exactly 1 week today and doing great!!
