Hey Junebugs.. I need some advice about my niece
So my son is a June16bug.. and my niece is 5 months younger than him (November 2016). So shes 2 and 3 months..
My son has a huge vocabulary and can clearly Express his needs and emotions.. my niece is visiting and she clearly isnt...
To me she is still babbling, only says mama and Dada, dodadada... "hnnnnn" sounds..
I studied infant and Child development so this comes across as a bit striking but I'm no speech pathologist.. I think she needs to be assessed personally for either partial hearing loss or some form of developmental delay. I've been doing my simple assessment of her and this is what I've found..
Fine motor- age appropriate, build a either 5-6 blocks, holds crayon appropriately, scribbles in back and forth motions, cross midline reach
Gross motor- age appropriate, stands up with hands to floor, squats, balance seems appropriate for age, run and jump
Emotional- somewhat age appropriate, easy to calm, does not turn to see crying or loud noise or yelp..
Social- enteraction: age appropriate, shy- slow to warm up. Can wave hello gesture, looks away when not desiring attention, does not look to peer for modeling behavior, solo play..
Verbal: no greeting verbally, 2/10 instances of "repeat after me", mama and dada with extra syllables, not able to verbally depict needs
Cognitive: below age appropriate. Able to follow short 1 step orders. "Put markers in cup, please".
I am not a multidisciplinary team so I can not diagnose or question. Pediatrician is a naturopath and thinks some kids take longer to learn but her development as is is not even meeting the lower bracket for her age group.. any advice would be well appreciated
