So I told my mom that me and my fiancé don’t want anybody kissing our baby when she gets here because of germs and everything. Especially since the flu has been going around really bad where we live. Something as small as a cold to us can be dangerous for a baby. Anyways she got super pissed and said we’re being stupid.
Also she just assumed that I want her and everybody at the hospital while I’m in labor. But my fiancé and I plan on it just being us the first night and having visitors the next day. And she’s pissed about that too. 
She’s had 6 kids and has let people in the room right after giving birth and never made anybody wash their hands and allowed them to kiss her babies. But that’s her that’s not me. And I think just because that’s how she chose to do everything she expects us to do the same? Idk

No, your baby = your rules. Your mom made her own rules with all her children. You’re allowed to make yours.

Do what you want. I am on my third pregnancy and I wish I had made people wait to see the baby. I was purely exhausted both times and all I wanted was to sleep but I forced myself to stay up because I had visitors. Let the hospital know you want to wait to see people so you can rest up. You also never know where people’s mouths have been and babies are so fragile. Especially newborns. You have every right to make those decisions of what you want.

The doctors and nurses will most likely press the no kissing rule as well. Snuggles are fine, just no kisses. And you get to decide when people come to visit. She can be upset but she’ll have to get over it.

My family took it really badly as well. They treated me awful like I was the worst uptight mom ever. Oh well. My baby stayed safe. My mom and grandma are also known to be really gross with different men so I’m sorry but no thanks lol

You have every right to ask that. It’s normal to ask and it’s safe. I actually ended up putting a sign on my door saying “no visitors please” after I had my step grandma come in and hold my newborn, then proceed to tell me she just came from visiting someone in emergency. From now on, no one is visiting us on a drop-in. They can call and ask first. Only immediate family now for sure if anyone at all  for us.

Your baby your rules. People need to respect your wishes. Even if you said something silly like you can't hold baby if you're wearing yellow, your rules need to be respected. Stand your ground and if they can't follow simple requests they don't need to see you or baby. You don't need other people adding extra stress in your life with a newborn

I'm going through the exact same thing. It's so frustrating to have to agree your wants with the family. You'll already be going through a stressful time, they are supposed to support you and encourage. Not argue because they dont agree. 
I literally had to tell my parents that I would get out of bed and throat punch them if they kiss my child in the first couple weeks. I've been told it's stupid as well. Too fucking bad. 
Same with people being in the room. 
I'm sorry you're going through this when you should be able to only focus on the beauty of this all. I hope they snap out of it and respect your wishes and what you'll be doing through. Good luck, momma! And congratulations!!
