Is a D&C painful?

I went in for my 10 week ultrasound and found out my baby only made it to 8 weeks and no heartbeat. I might have to get a D&C.... never had one... is it painful?

Mine wasn’t bad physically. Had a mild back ache when I woke up and a lot of bleeding before I left . Other than that it was a few days of light bleeding and spotting for over a week. The emotional pain was the worst. Hormones dropping are no joke 😕.

No it isn't. After I woke up from the anesthesia I had one painful cramp and then bled for 3 weeks. My son was 14 weeks though. 29 days after surgery I had my period and got pregnant that cycle.

No physical pain. They put you to sleep. The procedure is rather fast and they send everything for testing. I had one done back in October. I was 8 weeks and 3 days. So sorry for your loss..

I hate to be the one to say something bad but I had a miscarriage in 2017 and got a d&c. I was put to sleep but it was very painful afterwards and no one warned me about it which made it worse for me. A friend of mine had a miscarriage a few months later and texted me asking if it was normal to be in that much pain because nobody warned her either. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but I wish someone would have told me beforehand so I was prepared. I’m so so sorry for your loss❤️

I just had one done after a mmc and there was no pain from it and I barely bled much after.. however the emotional pain of waking up from the anesthesia knowing your baby is gone from your body is the worst pain I've felt in my life. It was worse than hearing the words "There's no heartbeat". I was having such a bad panic attack and the nurses couldn't get me to calm down and they had to go get my husband and I just sobbed for what felt like hours into his chest. I don't remember much else from the days afterwards.

Everyone is different. I had two and both were polar opposites of each other. 
make sure you let your self rest and heal. Don’t over do it.

I had one after a mmc, baby stopped growing at 10 weeks. Mine wasn’t bad at all. I waiting a little to see if my body would get moving on it’s own, but I couldn’t handle waiting for a long time with all the uncertainty. I rested a lot, but it wasn’t really painful for me, didn’t need pain meds or anything. I didn’t even have super heavy bleeding, but did pass some large clots. My emotional struggle was much worse than the procedure. Good luck.

I've had 2 d &C's.  One was during my diagnosis for PCOS, and that one I experienced very light cramping for about a day with a bit of spotting. My second was during my miscarriage 3 years ago this week. I was about as far along as you, but I was basically bleeding through hospital pads in 2 hours while they attempted multiple doses of Cytotec, but my cervix refused to open and my sweet baby refused to come out. I was on 4mg of morphine every 2 hours because the pain was so unbearably bad. The doc finally opted for the D & C. When I woke up from the anesthesia, it was immediate relief. I experienced light cramps for about 2 days and spotting for the same amount of time, and then it was done. It's different for everyone, but I would opt for the D & C if I ever had to make that decision again.

Nope. It's easy, quick and painless. 
Only thing that bothered me was the pee afterwards burned like lava ( they stitched my cervix ) but everything else was easy spotted for one day.
