Nervous but excited?

Question

My husband and I have been trying for 2 years to have a baby. Tuesday I have an appointment with a really great fertility specialist and I’m terrified but hopeful. Anyone that has been to a fertility specialist care to give me any insights as to what the beginning stages of this process are like?

I went after 4.5 yrs of miscarriages and unexplained infertility. We have a great RE. I had a lot of testing, blood work, that was the biggest surprise. Daily and bi weekly testing... I’m on a great plan now but it’s changed multiple times. Be flexible. Things are usually more complicated than you expect. Tons of shots! Oh, and the waiting is brutal, waiting in dr offices, for cycle day 1, for ovulation, for AF, test results, the dreaded TWW. A ton of success stories will help keep you positive. Everyone has a different story, explanation, experience but you aren’t alone. I’m on IUI #2, chlomid #2 and menopur #1 with trigger in a few days. (You’ll get use to the weird lingo) It was a long over due decision to finally seek expert assistance and one that I will never regret. Stay positive and be kind to yourself.

For us the first appointment they wanted history and they talked about the different things that could be preventing a healthy pregnancy and how to test for those things. Then they send you on your way to get tests done and get your period (so more tests can be done). Once they have all the results they have you back and tell you your options. Ours was honest with us and basically like this probably isn’t worth your time, this gives you the best chance, etc. now for us we had miscarriages and they could not find anything wrong with our tests so we went right to IVF with PGS.  So then they’ll make a plan for you or let you decide then make a plan based on what you picked. So I’d say our first appointment was end of July. Tested in August. Started stims in September. Egg retrieval in October. But be patient. I thought we’d transfer in November but we didn’t transfer until January! As much as you want to control this process you still don’t have much control. Listen to your doctors and try to not look up your test results online. If they say a number is fine assume the number is fine. If they suggest waiting another cycle or doing another test I’d recommend listening or at least asking questions to get more information.    They do this all the time and they want good results too! Good luck! This is a big step!
