This is my son Rhen! He is 4 months old and has reddish hair! His daddy his a blonde, I have medium brown hair, and his big brother is a dirty blonde color. We have no red heads in either of our families! I LOVE red hair and I’m hoping it stays red!

I’ve dont a lot of research as I’m the only red head in my family, and also used it as a topic in my genetics class in college. Both parents have to carry the gene, and you have to have the EXACT polypeptide (protein) sequence to express it. The red hair gene can lay “dormant” longer than almost any other gene due to that sequence needed. Basically, research shows a ton of people carry the gene and pass it on. You just need that magic order of proteins. Special special!!

My baby’s hair is tinted red too, same story! I have brown hair and my husband has dirty blonde. No red in the family.  Although I can see very light red undertones in my hair in very specific lighting.
