Birthing classes?

Question

Is everyone taking some type of class before baby comes? My hospital offers free classes for breastfeeding, infant CPR and birth, but it's only 1 day a month and in the middle of the week while both me and my husband are at work so they're not very convenient.
After looking into it I thought about just looking up some videos online with advice, but now my mom is throwing a fit at me not taking lamaze classes🙄 I really don't want to pay for classes because they're expensive and I'd rather save that money for baby things. Just curious what everyone thinks about it

I took all the classes with my first. They were held on the weekends or in the evenings, so much more convenient. I'm not sure I would go if I had to take off work. 
I think it's hard to say how helpful the classes will be, because you have no idea what your labor will actually be like. They went over different positions to labor in, which I feel was the one thing that was more helpful in person than it would be watching a class online. The other things, such as breathing techniques I think would be fine via online instruction.
The class honestly didn't end up being super helpful for me, because they spent every class talking about how this, that and the other thing we're going to be important because labor wouldn't happen like it does on TV or in movies. Well, my labor was pretty much how you see it on TV or in movies. I had a big gush when my water broke, headed right to the hospital, was brought right to the delivery room, where I labored for a couple of hours and then he was here. 
I was also choosing to get an epidural, so a lot of what they talked about at the classes didn't really apply to my situation.
As for the breastfeeding class - I didn't find it to be helpful when the time actually came. I found it way more helpful to have a Lactation Consultant once baby was actually here.

My opinion, I don’t think birthing classes are worth it. That being said I’ve never been to one, so maybe they offer more than I know. But my hospital gives you a tour before hand and walk you through a typical experience and between my doctor and hospital, they go over medication/pain relief options, they offer free breast feeding consulting while you’re there and for after you are discharged and they make you meet with their ‘Baby Bound’ nurse who goes over basics and is available anytime for any questions throughout pregnancy and birth. So to me it was definitely not worth taking any extra classes with so much already offered to me. Plus once labor started for me with my first, there was no amount of training that would’ve helped me. I was in too much pain and couldn’t even do what the nurses asked me to do to calm down and ease the pain once we were admitted and waiting on the anesthesiologist for my epidural 😬😆

I’m planning on a natural birth... we are currently taking a childbirth class. Based on ours, I would highly recommend it. I’m a paramedic and have caught babies, showed up right after babies are born, transported plenty of women in labor and witnessed a number of births at the hospital during clinicals... all that being said, it’s still been helpful for me! 
Ours has covered a lot of relaxation techniques and had us practice as well as positioning. They’ve also been huge at teaching my husband how to handle me during labor and recognize/address my needs without me having to ask. 
We have two classes left but we’re way more prepared than we were before (and I love to research so I felt confident before.)

I’m taking HypnoBabies and a couple free classes my birth center offers, one about how hormones work in labor, one about breastfeeding, and another about infant care. I think you have to prep more if you’re planning an unmedicated birth, but if you’re not, then the free ones at the hospital will give you enough info.

I’m taking birthing classes through my hospital, it’s on 3 consecutive Tuesdays and costs $110. I’m also taking a baby first aid class, baby care basics, breastfeeding, and a car seat class that are all $35 each. I’m a little over the top with wanting as much information as possible though😂

My husband and I are taking a free class offered in town.. (I found it in a Facebook group) those classes are expensive! But I want to be prepared as possible & know what ALL of my options are prior to being in labor !!

I’m taking a prenatal class held at the hospital. It’s free and on Sunday’s. I think it was great taking a class with my first and I’m taking one this time just for my husband because this is his first pregnancy (single mom with the first). They have great information and helps to connect with hubby (my little sister was my birth partner for the first).

My husband and I took a birthing class. This is our first and it was good to learn how the hospital helps you through all kinds of labor, what warning signs and signals to look for, what medication options I have. We got to tour the rooms and floor, and learn what our stay would be like. 
My husband took a Daddy 101 class where they basically tried to remind him that while he’s not very needed early on, he still needs to do his part 😂
And I’m taking a breast feeding class. Thankfully mine are provided on the weekend. How weird that you only have classes during the week. If that were the case for me, I probably wouldn’t go either.
