Placenta ?? After Birth

Does the placenta come out on it’s own?? And is it painful??

You “deliver it” like right after baby. Normally takes a contraction or two I believe but it’s within a couple of minutes. I didn’t really feel it because I had an epidural.

It kinda fell out of me a few minutes after I had my son. He was in my arms so I paid no attention. I felt instant relief once my son came out, but I felt full and completely relief once I delivered the placenta.

You deliver it. It’s pretty damn big but after baby has come out it’s no more painful than that. It’s quite common for it not to dislodge so often they need to give you a shot (I think it’s oxytocin?) to trigger it. It’s really strange to see, and amazing to realise how big it was

You push it out and it doesn’t hurt.

It’s soft (no bones) so it was fine for me. Kind of texture like a jellyfish.

Yeah normally you deliver it after the baby. I had a non-medicated birth, passed out before I made it from the chair I delivered on to the bed because I had some hemorrhaging, and didn't have the strength to deliver my placenta (+ it was sitting behind a thicker area of my cervix) so my midwife had to assist. After giving birth that wasn't even painful to have it pulled out. 🤷

I don’t remember it being painful. I didn’t have any meds. But I was so focused on the beautiful screaming baby on my chest.
