Did you grow up with 2 last names or hyphenated last names? What was your experience?

I have hyphenated name and I use my married name alone as much as possible. It’s been a pain in the rear at work especially. Once my oldest son is 18 I’ll be changing my name to just married name. Mine is only hyphenated because my sons is with my name and his fathers name

Thank you everyone for your input so far! My last name is Rose and I love it. My fiancé has a very long, unusual, and hard to pronounce last name. I plan on keeping mine as is when we marry. As for our kids (currently pregnant with our first!) I want to give them two last names- Rose (space not hyphen) then his last name. I don’t mind much on what people want to call them or what they choose to go by. I just hope they don’t hate us later in life for giving them some long ass names 😂

I've always had a tough name. Felicia (FeliCHA) Contu-Owen. Contu is pronounced Cone-two. All three names were always pronounced wrong. They would even say Owens.. anyway it was hard. When I was younger kids would say things. My brother just got married and lost the Owen because his wife didnt want a hyphenated name and he was over it too. My first year teaching my kids could say the whole thing so I used only one name. I'd never do that to my kids.

My stepson who is almost 8 has two last names and they are not hyphenated. He knows he has two last names and knows what they are but doesn’t know how to spell it and it is never used anywhere in his life. At school, camps or activities.
