Is it weird to refer to my bf as my partner?

My partner is male and I am female. We have been together for 6 years, live together and have a child together. We are not married or engaged bc he has commitment issues I think. (But he is faithful 100%.) Someone recently told me its weird for me to refer to him as my partner bc that is what same sex couples do and they assumed I was with another girl bc I said "my partner". I feel like 'boyfriend/gf' doesnt describe our relationship and I dont wanna explain rvery time why we arent married yet so partner felt like the best fitting option. But is it really weird?

I don’t think it’s weird however if I didn’t know you and heard you say that I probably also would think you were in a same sex relationship

I think partner is becoming the new way to describe significant other whether it’s safe sex, boyfriend girlfriend, fiancé etc that’s what I call mine

I say the same thing. I don’t like calling the father of my child my boyfriend I feel like it makes us seem like 18. We’ve been together for so long until we actually get married I will call him my partner or hubby sometimes as we might as well be lol

The only time I was ever told this was by an Eastern European. I had to explain to him that once you become a certain age, boyfriend begins to sound silly especially if you know you're going to be with this person for a very long time unmarried. Hence why my husband was my partner. I dunno why if you're same sex you can be partners and not opposite sex, it was the first and only time I'd had someone say it to me. And seeing as now gay marriage is legal etc we al, have the right to use the same words

My partner and I have been together for 15 years. We have a daughter and another baby on the way. Not married. Sometimes I say partner, sometimes I just call him my husband. I don’t care what others think 🤷🏻‍♀️

My SO and I have a civil union, signed and recognized by the state (France, it’s called the PACS). We call each other “compagne/compagnon” in French but since that doesn’t exist in English, we have to say partner. I think people use partner more and more though, some people just aren’t used to it
