My birth story
At my 39 week and 1 day appointment, I was having my non stress test done and baby wasn’t moving as much as the doctors would like so I was sent over to labor and delivery for extra monitoring. After a few hours they said everything was fine and sent me home. Now a little back story, my OB and I had been planning an induction between 39-40 weeks due to my hypertension but the doctor I saw at L&D refused to listen. I called my OV and she asked to see me the next day. So its following day and I’m now 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant, they checked my blood pressure and it was extremely elevated. I had my cervix checked and I was 1 cm dilated so my OB did a small membrane strip and said to get ready because we were starting the induction that day. The hubby and I then went to get some lunch and let family know what was going on. We get to the hospital at 1:30 and by 2:30 p.m I had my first round of cytotec placed under my cervix to start contractions and let me tell you the Braxton Hicks I was getting was nothing compared to the cytotec contractions. I started getting back labor and it hurt so bad, I couldn’t sleep much through the night. Come the next day on April 3 at 8 a.m I was check again and was dilated between a 2-3. The OB then broke my water and got the orders sent to start the pitocin drip. I elected for the epidural (I’m a weenie when it comes to pain) and I felt none of the contractions though they were reading off the charts. My legs felt like 500lb sand bags which was very uncomfortable but not painful. 4 p.m rolls around and I was checked again. Only 4 cm dilated 80% effaced and baby in -1 station. My OB decided after almost 29 hours of labor and I hadn’t progressed far enough that it was time to get a c section done. Now I was open to the possibility that I very well could have a c section if it didn’t go as planned but I was still scared. At 5:41 p.m April 3 my daughters was born. Now we found out the reason I didn’t progress naturally was because her head was crooked in the birth canal AND she weighed 9lbs 10oz 21 3/4in. no one estimated her to be that huge (I did not have gestational diabetes). Unfortunately due to her size the surgeon had to make a T incision in my uterus to get her out which means I’ll never be able to have a vaginal birth after cesarean section BUT all that mattered was that at 39 weeks 3 days gestation my baby came into the world healthy and full of some cute baby chunk! Recovery has been tough so far but I’m managing as best as I can. My April 7th baby turned into an April 3rd baby and shares her birthday with one of her grand fathers. She also has a ton of hair which makes up for all the heart burn!
