Do you know how much your co workers make?

I’ve been with my current employer 3 years that being said I took about a 3 month leave at the end of 2017.

When I came back annual reviews were already done and I kinda missed out on an annual raise

I recently read some comments on here and someone was talking about the stigma of asking people how much they make and telling people how much you make is bad and a lot of people think it is illegal.

Kinda got me thinking.

Well a conversation came up with one of my co workers that started working there about a month after I came back from my leave I helped train her ect. Come to find out she was started out about 5k more than I am making now with my most recent raise! And she was upset because she was told the new highers are making more than her.

Well I talked to my boss, kind of at a loss like should I have negotiated my pay when I came back? But in my head I’m like if your starting people off at a higher rate why wouldn’t I just be bumped up? Well I think i might be getting another raise soon. So I guess you really do miss out on what you don’t ask for 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just curious on your ladies thoughts about this? Do you think it’s acceptable to talk about how much you make with your co workers?
