Laying on back?

I’m 18 weeks & read laying on your back cause be bad for your baby. I’m so used to just lying on it when I’m just hanging out on my phone, I don’t catch myself until I think about it. When should you stop & why?

It’s not completely true. The thought is that the weight of the uterus can compress the Vena Cava and reduce blood flow. In reality, your body would wake you up before the compression would ever become dangerous. The compression can cause numbness, nausea and general discomfort which is why you’d wake up and readjust you position. My doctor says it all depends on how much weight you’ve gained and how far along you are. I attempt to sleep on my side with a pregnancy pillow and always wake up on my back. I’ve been a back sleeper all my life so it’s hard to get comfortable on my side. My doctor said not to worry about it. Talk to your and see what they say.

You shouldn’t lay on your back because your uterus can compress a blood vessel called the Vena Cava which can cut off blood flow to your baby. I read you should stop around 20 weeks but you should ask your doctor to be sure.

Your body will tell you when you need to adjust. You’ll get uncomfortable. Lightheaded. And even a bit panicky (in my experience). I’ve slept on my back in all of my pregnancies but I do usually prop myself up because I have horrible nasal swelling in every pregnancy and can’t breath well at night.

I can’t help but lay on my back. I’ve always either laid on my back or stomach. There’s no in between. I’m so uncomfortable on my side. They usually tell you to stop when it gets uncomfortable for you.

Unless you lay on your back and are very much propped up like sitting almost that is okay. I currently have to do it
