Breast Feeding?

Question

Hello, I’m a first time mom and my doctor is really pushing me to try breastfeeding when the bay comes. I was just wondering if you need breast milk storage bags or is there another way to store breast milk? I will be pumping because I work overnights and my husband will be home.

Breastmilk bags are the most convenient ways to store your milk. I would give breastfeeding a try, it might be for you. I was able to provide my baby breast milk for his first 8 months but working full time and a 5 year old, I was definitely done. I hated pumping but I did it for my baby and when it became too much I stopped. Some people are able to breastfeed for awhile some don’t produce enough milk. I really enjoyed the bond between my babies and I . Pretty much bottom line a fed baby is most important. I wouldn’t let your doctor push you to do something you don’t want to do.

We use them all the time, but we’re in daycare at this point. Our daycare prefers frozen milk. 
When I was on maternity leave, I didn’t use them as much, but I still used them for my freezer stash.

Bags are easiest for storage. Lay them flat to freeze and once frozen you can stack them vertically saving tons of space. I pump into bottles to store in the fridge (it lasts for a few days) but about a month before you back to work I pumped once a day in the morning when my supply was at its highest to start a freezer stash. I highly recommend you do that. I don’t pump enough to make enough bottles for the next day so I really needed a freezer stash. I also kept pumping in place of feeds my LO dropped (at 10 pm and overnight) to also help meeting the daily need for bottles. Good luck!

I rarely used the bags because I always just pumped while at work and that was fed to baby the very next day. So I just had pumping bottles for me and we’d just transfer the milk when I got home from those into baby bottles and put in fridge for next day. I got really cheap pumping bottles on amazon- will depend what kind of pump you have though.
You’ll still need a box of bags in case you need to freeze some or something but I literally went through a box in like 6 months.

I use bags for milk that I’m going to freeze, but in general, the milk I pump is fed to baby within 24 hours, so it never makes it past the fridge. Baby is 8 months now, and I’ve used maybe 75 storage bags. What I find really useful is extra bottles that attach to the pump flanges, because they’re less likely to leak than bags and they’re reusable.

Idk. Sorry I can’t help more, I’m a first time mom too. But if you need storage bags, that seems to be the popular thing to put in freebie boxes and bags (babylist.com, motherhood maternity gives you a goodie bag when you make a purchase, amazon.com). I already have a little over a dozen. They’re all different brands, but hey, a bag is a bag. I’m sure I’ll need more, but it’s free. 🤷🏼‍♀️😉
