Rock n Play Recall??

Question

I got an email about this from Amazon.. my baby no longer uses it, as he’s too big and can roll over... was told to contact Fisher Price and get a refund? Anyone else?
This thing helped my newborn sleep very well 😳, now to find out it’s being pulled off the market?

Here’s him in it now, obviously fully awake.. but I never let him sleep in it anymore or ever leave him unsupervised...I set him down for seconds, it helps him 💩...lol

I know so many people that used these and not only did they not have any issues, but they loved them! In fact, every parent I spoke to recommended this item. The only reason I didn’t get it was because my son started to sleep pretty well in his bassinet and we got another swing as a gift from my cousin. So I just didn’t want anymore baby gadgets because I really just didn’t have any room left for them!
The recall is definitely due to these not being used properly. It’s not the actual product, so it’s unfortunately have to recall this item. I have heard people say the babies died while being supervised, but how could that be possible? If you are watching your baby, you would notice if they weren’t breathing or if they flip over in the rock and play!  
Infants can also die in their car seats and a parent can roll over on a baby when bed sharing. It’s the parents responsibility to make sure the baby is in the car seat properly! And when bed sharing, the parent needs to be careful. For example, it’s not recommended to bed share if you are a heavy sleeper and/or have a sleep disorder, are on medication with a sedative effect, or have had alcohol to drink, or things of that nature. 
But you have clearly been using this product safely and properly! So I wouldn’t worry. As long as you are observing your baby closely and paying attention to thinks like rolling over, sitting up, etc, you can easily determine whether or not it’s stilll have to use a product 😊

All rock n play “sleepers” in the United States have been recalled. They sell the same product in Canada only there it’s called a “soothing seat” and is marketed like any other swing/rocker/bouncer (safe for short periods of time when baby is supervised and under the age or weight limit) the Canadian version while exactly the same product was not recalled because in Canada it already comes with the appropriate name and warnings. 
Unfortunately in the United States it is marketed as a Sleeper and a safe place for babies to sleep all night long. But it doesn’t meet safe sleep guidelines since it is not a firm, flat surface.

I’m glad you posted about this! I just got an email as well. Apparently they have caused infant deaths because babies have rolled over in them. 😢 I can’t even imagine. I will definitely be sending mine in. It was great to have when she was a few weeks old but I don’t want to risk it for the next child. No freaking way. No matter how hard and frustrating bassinet training was!

Yeah I never had problems either . And I never left unsupervised and he’s way too big for it .

I’ve read a lot of good things about Tiny Love 3-in-1 napper as an alternative. These are meant for naps and somewhere to set baby when you need to doing something else quickly, not for overnight sleep. And never unsupervised. Considering trying it. I really liked the convenience of the rock n play. So sad to see the death reports. Hoping they make some changes and bring something similar back to market.
