Can we grieve the inanimate?

🌟

As we speak, the Notre Dame is burning further and further into the ground. It is a loss for Paris, a loss for France, a loss for Europe, and a loss for the world. We have lost nearly 1000 years worth of history and culture. It took almost 200 years to build, and if it was commissioned to have it restored (or remade) then we would not see it in our lifetimes, or even in the lifetime of our children. A monument that survived the tyranny of the French Revolution, a monument that survived the bombings of two horrifying world wars

I have seen many comments, through twitter and the news especially, talking about grieving and mourning the loss of this magnificent building, its architecture, its history, its contents

Do you believe we can mourn or grieve the loss of this building?

Are there any other inanimate that we can or are justified in grieving, or is it limited to influential and culturally identifiable landmarks?
