Daycare questions?

My childcare plans fell through so I have 3 weeks to find a daycare. I have a tour of one tomorrow that looks great. What are some questions I need to ask? All I have so far is what security measures they have in place and do I need to pre-make her formula bottles? What else do I need to ask?? What is different about taking a kid to day care instead of a babysitter? Other than the obvious 😂

We’ve been at daycare since 6 weeks... we toured and the director was informative and we went in blind as well. The things I enjoy most about our daycare is that there is a secure door and only parents can enter with a keypad code, there are always at least 2 teachers in the rooms at all times, and we get a daily report at the end of the day. We pre make our bottles at night for the following day (since they are good for 24 hrs in the fridge). That took some guess work as to how many to provide. They feed her every 2ish hours so we typically send her with 4 bottles for the day. Hope some of this helps! Oh and be prepared to cry at your first few drop offs, cause I did 😂

Be sure to look up your daycare on your state’s licensing website to check out violations. You can ask about the violations and how they were corrected and how they’re ensuring they don’t happen again. Most likely you will need to premake your formula bottles and label them with name and date

I’d ask about ratios and how they ensure ratios are being met. Are their ratios the same as the states or less? (I worked in a daycare where the state ratios were 5 to 1 for infants but the owners would never let us go over 4 to 1.) Ask if baby will have her own crib and space to store things. Will diapers and wipes be included in your weekly fee or do you need to provide them?

Ask about teacher certifications for first aid and cpr. Ask about technology policy (you probably don’t want your kid having screen time so young). Ask about illness policy and how you’ll be notified of illness or incidents. Ask about how staff promotes your child’s development. That’s all I can think of right now!
